I only accept reservations Picking season is early in Julian 2026, with only as many pick times as I have ripening apples.If you wish to pick here, I work many weekdays,

so I have taken reservations.

 

For those who have reserved ahead of picking day, there will be several groups picking at the same hour, and I require that you have previously arranged to reserve days ahead. When a reserved group arrive, you need to be patient. "Start time"s yours and others, can be fluid as groups can drive for hours and may be young or old families, couples, or groups of young people, congregations, etc.

 

The layout for parking here is in a word bizarre.

I have spaces for one, two, three, five, seven or nine in lanes off the driveway which I must keep free along with a "fire lane" in case of wildfires which happen and happened the same day as the Pacific Palisades and Eaton Canyon conflagrations north of Los Angeles.

 

When you arrive from your daily lives, there will be several vehicles lined up on Wynola Road, a two lane narrow road. I will be there with my list of reservations, first asking down the line if people are picking here, or up the hill using the same road.

 

Then the answer that I need is are there children and # of vehicles. This allows my onboard computer called a brain can process where inside or along my side of the road ONLY when there are no children I can advise extreme caution given bad drivers on the road.

 

For those with children who I indicate I will find their parking spot inside my gate OFF the driveway, I will need absolute agreement on my decision given numbers of vehicles.

 

The next step before picking is to assemble near my garage and BATHROOM to inform groups first how to stay safe on the propertry and sign a waiver and the fee of $5 per adult entry, their responsiblities for minors, $ 20 per bag holding roughly a dozen apples carefully picked from trees. and where on my "chess board" configuration to find the apples that are ripe that day.

 

In general reds and goldsa re picking out and are rougly planted singly in Northwest, northeast souheast and southwest corners of the orchard. Similarly the Granny Smith are on the southfacing slope behind my house, and they are UNRIPE but this is how Granny Smiths are sold, not golden waxy and sweet if allowed to continue ripening into winter. (beautiful apples on trees in snow!)

 

What I need everyone here understand is that I work alone

in true agriculture, not some popup with as many apples as pickerrs want. We growers, farmers, ranchers and orchard owners tend our crops and herds 12 months of the year to bring what we consider the market is seeking. In this particular case, watering in 2025-2026 has been the critical factor due to zero rain in months when normally the treees are dormant and coming out of dormancy.

The relentless heat has also factored in, as apples are a temperate crop requiring certain chilling "hours" each growing season.
